Judges call out new smartphone design aesthetic inspired by the end user experience
Sydney, Australia – 30 July 2012. The first product to come from the alliance between Nokia and Microsoft, the Nokia Lumia 800 has won an Australian International Design Award in this year’s consumer category.
Beautifully designed, yet easy to use, the Nokia Lumia 800 was a standout among the judges of the nation’s most prestigious design award, who were impressed by Nokia’s insights into current and emerging consumer behaviour to shape both the hardware design and UI.
Jolaine Boyd, Nokia Australia’s head of marketing said, “Every feature of the phone is driven solely by the consumer experience.
“This is a very significant win for us, which validates Nokia’s long-standing reputation for outstanding design. The first product born out of our relationship with Microsoft, it has set the standard for our growing portfolio of Lumia smartphones.”
The sleek, curved casing, together with the inky blackness of the glass and precision finishing makes for an extremely elegant smartphone. Nokia also made a bold statement by introducing vibrant colours into what is considered a monochrome mobile market. Available in matt-black, cyan, magenta and white, the colour pigment runs right through the phone’s polycarbonate body so if it gets scratched, it’s virtually impossible to tell.
“Creating Nokia’s first Windows Phone involved more than simply blending together Nokia hardware and Microsoft software – there was an amazing amount of collaboration and a brave new design approach that was applied,” added Boyd.
